God’s got you – even though it may not feel like it right now. You may feel lost, unworthy, or hopeless. In a recent MAP For Healing and Recovery program class on habits, we had some extra good discussion on this. Some of the supporting scriptures really seemed to click with the participants, so I thought I’d share them here as well. Here are 3 simple points to prove that God’s God You, too!
1) God’s Got You – Before You Even Knew It!
“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ, and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.Ephesians 1:11-12 (Message translation)
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Walking in relationship with Jesus helps us find our purpose. Although we may feel like a loser at times, Paul says we are God’s masterpiece. All of this comes, BEFORE we ever heard of Christ. He had his eye on us. Doesn’t that alone, take some of the pressure off?
2) God’s Got You – While You’re Going Through It!
In one of the great leadership succession plans in history, an elderly Moses gives way to Joshua, in front of all the people, sharing this wisdom:
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)
As if that wasn’t enough, God himself spoke to Joshua later:
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9 (NLT)
This is one of God’s great promises. If you’re a doubter, just consider: if God is so great and sovereign, he can NOT break his own promise, right? Take this one to heart – own it with confidence!
3) God’s Got You – Giving Faith, Hope And Strength To Do It!
You may think that God has forgotten you. You may feel like you’ve been led out into the wilderness in this season of your life. You’re stuck. There’s no hope – or at least, it may feel that way. But, the apostle Paul and the prophet Isaiah give us these words:
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.Philippians 1:6 (NLT)
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)
Our job is simply, to believe God’s promise, have faith that God will finish his work in us, and trust him along the way for strength. Because we humans can easily overthink things and drive ourselves crazy, right? That’s the world’s way. Try not get sucked into all the negativity and “what if’s . . .? Instead, ask yourself “what if” I tried it God’s way?
It may sound too good to be true, but God’s way really does work better. Here’s a lighthearted song to help bring this home. Check out Mercy Me’s Grace Got You, for more inspiration. God’s love and grace has got you! (Bet you’ll be “hummin’ when the song’s through.”)
- Reread the opening scriptures from my last “Quick Church” blog, “A Living Sacrifice,” again from Paul. (or see this link to go straight to the two different translations of Romans 12:2)
- Examine your current struggles through the lens of that Romans verse and today’s message.
- Then, put it together. What can you do right now to start moving closer to God’s way of handling your situation? REALLY take some time to think about this and be honest with yourself. What can you stop doing as well as start doing?
Lord, I pray that we can all be tuned in better to you and your ways. As the song goes, help us to sing, glide, dance, laugh and smile our way through life. Give us the faith, hope, trust and strength to do it your way vs. conforming to the world’s ways. Let us be willing to move closer to that, right now. Let us not be fooled by temptations or the world’s negativity. Help us rise above all that noise. Have your way with us. Bring out the best in us. Amen!
May God bless you!
